The Tree

This evening we were helping Katelyn finish her big school project that she and two other girls have been working on for about a month now. Em was left on her own as Eric and I were busy with Katelyn. Here is a conversation I had with Em during this time:

Em: Mom.
Me: What?
Em: Do you know that I feel like?
Me: No, what?
Em: A tree.
Me: Why a tree?
Em: Because I feel like you aren't paying attention to me and nobody pays attention to trees.
